Woman's Day

Oct 01 2022
Magazine

Woman's Day, one of the oldest and most beloved of all the traditional women's magazines, is ever-evolving to fit the needs of modern readers.

Doing hard things

Boo-it-yourself • Orange you pumped for these pumpkin projects?

My Yay! List • Fun finds that made me say yay

smile file • Save these dates: There are a whole lot of happy-makers to put on your calendar!

Trick out this treat! • It turns out eating this iconic candy is the least fun way to enjoy it. Make these corny (in a good way!) DIYs on Candy Corn Day.

Get connected • Thanks to virtual services, it’s easier than ever to access the support you need on World Mental Health Day and beyond. Psychologist Therese Mascardo, Psy.D., shares her tips for getting the most out of online therapy.

We dig these spots! • Make no bones about it, these are the most dino-mite places in the U.S. to see ancient remains up close on Fossil Day.

Shrouded in mystery • In honor of Mystery Series Week, author Mia P. Manansala shares a few of her favorite whodunits. Pick them up along with her book Blackmail and Bibingka, a delicious, culture-filled mystery in which baker Lila investigates a murder to prove her long-lost cousin’s innocence…or guilt.

SILENT SIGNALS • Blanca Cobb, a body language expert and the founder of Body Language Day, reveals the surprising meaning behind certain gestures and expressions.

SSSSO TASTY • Since Breadstick Day falls during spooky season, we put a hiss-terical (and spine-tingling) twist on this beloved appetizer. Turn to page 86 for our how-to.

Fruits of your labor • On Fruit at Work Day, skip the bruised banana and try a fruit snack that is less likely to get beaten up on your commute. Jaclyn London, R.D., shares her go-tos.

PUMPKIN TO TALK ABOUT • We’re spicing things up (and thinking outside the pan) on Pumpkin Cheesecake Day with this no-bake version. Turn to page 86 for our how-to.

Career reboot • Ever considered a job in the STEM field? For Techies Day, Rachel Rothman, Good Housekeeping’s chief technologist, shares three tips for getting your foot in the door.

Your true colors • In honor of Color Day, we sifted through a rainbow of options to find the most wearable, universally flattering shades for your eyes, cheeks, and nails.

Have a ball!

Wheely cute idea • It’s Name Your Car Day-but your car already has a name, you say? That’s all right, just shift gears and turn your sweet ride into these sweet treats, created by our friends at Car and Driver.

Dalmatian history 101 • In honor of Fire Pup Day, we’re putting the spotlight on Dalmatians and how the breed became known as firefighters’ best friend. “In the time of horse-drawn carriages, Dalmatians were useful in clearing paths of the many stray dogs that might otherwise interfere with horses’ travel,” says J. Charles Garvin, president of the Dalmatian Club of America. “When fire departments first started, the fire wagons were pulled by horses. It was natural for Dalmatians to go along with the fire wagons to clear the way and provide protection. They also helped provide companionship for the firemen, who would have many periods of boring inaction between fires.” How paw-some is that?!

Don’t end on a sour note! • Frowning is absolutely allowed on Sourest Day, yet we can’t help but encourage you to smile and mark the day with sour candy instead of a sour puss. Our recommendation: Try the three most-ordered sour candies on Sugarwish, a personalized food gifting service. Now get ready to pucker up.

I’M TURNING 50! • Entrepreneur and former pianist Angela Jia Kim knows how to savor the moment.

beauty boost • “Whenever I have glowy skin, it’s an instant pick-me-up. I feel more radiant.”
